2016-2017 Our 21st All Star Cheer Year!
Kicking off the season with some themed practices helps our teams to bond with some fun team activities. Both Beach theme & SIE Spirit day were a great hit! We also shared a team movie night this summer at the Atrium to see NERVE. A special spotlight moment for us when our very own coach Cathrine Bernardo was on screen 2 times during the HS pep rally scene as a cheerleader. What a stretch for her first acting role!
In September, some of the Gem families took a trip to NYC to see School of Rock on Broadway! It was a great show. Watching the bway show kids perform on stage had us reminiscing and looking forward to getting our kids on the mat this season too.
Every October is a busy month due to our annual Columbus Day 3-day weekend clinics as well as our annual Pink Out Practice for Breast Cancer Awareness. This season in support of one of our all-time loved SIE Family members, Colleen Fertitta, being a breast cancer survivor we added a fundraiser to our Pink celebration. The SIE gems collected change for 2 weeks of October & have $472 to donate to Memorial Sloan Kettering: Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center in Colleen's honor. We even changed our program logo to the color pink for the month.
We have already had some memorable moments when Coach Quinny got engaged.
We celebrated the departure of coach Alyssa when she moved to Florida to live with her mom, step dad & sister where she has already stepped into a full time teacher position. She is already on her way back this month & making a special trip to the gym to run an Amethyst practice.
Another special day for our staff was the announcement of Coach Cathrine's engagement.
Coming soon we have more GEM SPOTLIGHTS. New Competition Uniform Reveal, Dress Rehersal, Holiday Parties, Competitions, Bring a Friend night, Fundraisers, End of year Recital to celebrate our graduating Seniors & More! The 21st season is here & we couldn't be more excited!

With over 200 party guests from current season, staff & graduates over the past 20 years we had an incredible time. The requests have come in for an annual reunion & we are taking it very seriously so we can see even more of our GEMS!

Based on our competition scores and placements at competitions, our teams won bids to to special year-end competitions known as THE ONE & THE FINALE by Cheer & Dance Extreme. Our Diamond team was awarded BEST PYRAMID award at the Silver Championships in Maryland in March.
The Diamond team was also chosen this year by Jade Collins-Parnell, a student at Pratt Institute, to film our team members for one of her film projects. She was hoping to create a film that goes against the stereotypes of cheerleading and actually show people that this is a sport made up of dedicated and determined girls. She attended 5 of the Staten Island Elite Cheerleaders practices where she recording the Sr level 4 Diamond team working on new skills & their routine, interacting with each other as well as interviewing the girls about their experience as a cheerleader. The film is on our home page for you to watch.
We had special practices/theme nights:

01/26/2013 - Cheers for the Grace Foundation...
Saturday January 26th, our Staten Island Elite Gems will be performing parts of their routines to help raise money for a local charity, the Grace Foundation. The Grace Foundation is a non-profit organization established to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. If you are interested in cheering our Gems on while supporting a great cause, the show will take place at St. George Theater. Doors open 6:30 pm, Show begins at 7:00 pm. Tickets for sale at the door $10 adult and $5 kids ages 12 & under. We already have 200 friends & family who pre-purchased their tickets but we can always use more SIE fan club members! We hope to see you there, wearing red to support our girls!
We are very proud of our Staten Island Elite Cheerleaders for taking the time to come raise money for The Grace Foundation, a charity organization created for families affected by Autism. Our Rhinestones, Ruby-Emeralds, Amethyst, and Diamond teams took the stage at St. George Theater and impressed all at the show. But the real team to watch was The Grace Foundation's cheerleaders! The girls did AMAZING with their routine and cheer; to watch their excitement when they received their trophy was truly heartwarming. Great job, Grace Foundation Cheerleaders- you were the best team there! Our Gems feel blessed to have the opportunity to support The Grace Foundation while performing and sharing their love of cheerleading. Thanks to all cheerleaders, family, and friends that came out. Hope you all had as great of a time as we did!
01/20/2013 - Staten Island Elite is back on the mat!
The first competition this seventeenth season led to success for our Ruby-Emeralds, Amethyst, and Diamond teams. Amethyst flew onto the floor first and with superhero speed made the crowd cheer them on. Following Amethyst was the Ruby-Emeralds, our youngest team who brought the crowd to their feet with their show-stopping routine. Diamonds sparkled as our senior team, owning the mat and bringing home the Grand Champion (highest score) trophy. Not only were SIE's cheerleaders excited for their first time out, but so were the parents who screamed louder than the music! A truly wonderful opening to our seventeenth season ensures an amazing season to come. Keep on shining, Gems!
01/01/2013 - New Year Cheer!
We are pleased to announce that our New Year Cheer was a success! All Staten Island Elite Gems were asked to write a letter supporting and cheering on an unknown cheerleader in our program. Given out the last practice before competition, the letters inspired our Gems to do the best for their first competition. The effort our girls put into the letters were touching to both the cheerleaders and coaching staff. Staten Island Elite Cheerleaders wish everyone a healthy, safe, and cheerful New Year!
"There was something In my letter that I thought about. It said "If u do something wrong never give up and do your best." I love cheerleading!" -Julianne about Shannon's letter
"This letter inspired me so much to do my best this weekend! I will never forget when she wrote forget about anything that happened bad last year and work hard! Also when it said I earned the spot and pushed through all the pain. I love my cheer mates!" -Hailey K. about Sammi's letter
"It made me excited and made me want to be the best we could be!" -Hailey S. about Jaime's letter
12/21/2012 - Everything I needed for success, I learned as a cheerleader
I received this email with the link from Rachels mom & thought I would share!
Don't know if you've seen this but I thought it was a great article and, judging what I've seen from the older Gems, very true.
12/16/2012 - Dress Rehearsal
Its almost that time of year! As our Staten Island Elite cheerleaders put on their uniforms, the reality that competition season will be starting soon sunk in. The Ruby-Emeralds, Amethyst, and Diamond teams arrived at our gym to find festive balloons everywhere to add spirit to the night. With a clapper board and movie reel balloon for their musical theme, our Ruby-Emeralds were so excited to wear their uniforms for the first time and could not stop talking about how much they loved the balloons. Our Diamonds had a gold balloon for every member of the team, a giant 17 for our seventeenth year of SIE, and three red balloons for our three High School Senior girls Cassidy, Alexa, and Keila. The most favored balloon that stole everyone's hearts, however, belong to the superhero-themed Amethyst team. As our Gems walked in, they found a life-sized Batman sitting on our trampoline. Once Coach Liz opened the practice with a program-wide prayer circle, our Gems made sure they performed their best in their beautiful uniforms for the other teams and more importantly Batman!
